All aboard Gucci’s slick new era

As we get ready for Sabato De Sarno’s debut collection as Gucci’s new creative director at Milan Fashion Week in September, the Italian house has left a few clues of what’s to come.

In August, cult-fave model Daria Werbowy was pulled out of retirement for a pool-side teaser campaign, wearing nothing but a double-GG thong, a fresh face and a sun-kissed glow. And now, Gucci has released its official campaign for AW23, showcasing the irreverent collection that was designed by the house’s studio team after former creative director Alessandro Michele’s grand finale last September.

Featuring nothing but an elevator, a Gucci-green backdrop and smiling models, the latest crumb in the lead-up to De Sarno’s debut is delectably pared-back, miles away from the heady 70s references of Michele’s modern rockstars. Dusting off the Gucci Horsebit Chain bag, first introduced by Tom Ford for Gucci’s AW03 collection, the house’s upcoming era could spell a return to the sexy, sensual minimalism of its 90s years, bringing back a contagious youthful spirit. We’re all ears.
